The Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the College of Veterinary Medicine at Tikrit University, in cooperation with the Women with Disabilities Unit and the University’s Counseling and Guidance Division, organized an awareness seminar entitled “Rumors and Their Negative Impact on Individuals and Society,” held at Dr. Muhannad Maher Hall.
The seminar was delivered by Professor Dr. Wasan Sarhan Ubaid, Lecturer Riam Hassan Mahdi, and Assistant Lecturer Hamza Yassin Taha. It addressed several key topics, most notably the concept of rumors and the reasons behind their spread in societies, particularly in light of the rapid development of social media platforms.
The seminar also discussed the psychological and social effects of rumors on individuals, including anxiety, stress, and loss of trust, as well as their role in destabilizing society and spreading misinformation.
In addition, it highlighted strategies to combat rumors, such as verifying information sources, promoting media literacy, and relying on official channels for news dissemination. The role of educational institutions in raising students’ awareness about the risks of تداول non-credible information was also emphasized.
The seminar was attended by a number of students and faculty members, who actively engaged with its topics due to their importance in fostering responsible societal awareness based on accurate knowledge.
